Type of Industrial Racking Inside The Warehouse

Industrial racking system are metal structures designed to support the goods in the warehouse. There are several types of industrial lacking depending on the usage and floor space inside the warehouse.

In this article we will focus on pallet load racking system, which is more suitable for the larger warehouse area.

Types of Industrial Racking for pallets

This type of racking system is designed to handle large load that will be lifted by handling equipment. There are four main categories which are adjustable pallet racking, compact pallet racking, live pallet racking and mobile pallet racking.

Adjustable Pallet Racking

Standard Adjustable Pallet Racking

Adjustable Pallet Racking is the standard type of industrial racking which allows the fork lift to access all the goods directly via the aisles that run parallel to the racking.

Double Deep Pallet Racking

Double Deep Pallet Racking is another conventional storage solution. The pallets are stored at two depths with only one aisle. The operator does not have direct access to all the pallets store, thus, require the use of longer extension arm on the handling equipment.

Compact pallet racking

This is commonly known as the drive-in system, because, the fork lift can drive into the rack structure. There are two types of the system, which are LIFO (Last In, First Out) and FIFO (First In, First Out) racking system.
The LIFO (Last In, First Out) drive in compact system is the most used. There is only one aisle on this racking system, and the last pallet which entered will leave first.
The FIFO (First In, First Out) drive through pallet racking needs two parallel aisle in which the first pallet entered will leave first. This racking system actually requires more space than the first one.

Live Pallet Racking

Live pallet racking is a type of compact storage system that uses the gravity and roller to move the pallet around inside the structure.
This type of system also called the push-back LIFO racking system.

Push-Back LIFO racking is a live storage solution for accumulation of pallets that uses the LIFO method (Last in, First out) to manage the unit loads. This system only requires one loading and unloading area in front of the structure and the pallets are stored by pushing the previous one toward the back. When the front pallet is picked up the back pallet will automatically slide up to the front to replace the front pallet which has been taken out.

Mobile Racking or Mobile Bases System

Mobile Racking is a storage solution in which the metal structure is mounted on mobile bases or a chassis which are guided by rails fixed to the floor and normally used the motor to move. This will require only one work aisle, which will be opened by the movement of the racking bay for forklift access.
